The outer petal-bearing florets (ray florets) are sterile and can be yellow, red, orange, or other colors. The florets inside the circular head are called disc florets, which mature into seeds.
This little bee is smaller than half an inch.
The flower petals within the sunflower's cluster are always in a spiral pattern. Generally, each floret is oriented toward the next, producing a pattern of interconnecting spirals.
The flower of a sunflower is actually a group of several flowers.
The sunflower has a rough, hairy stem, broad, coarsely toothed, rough leaves. The leaves can be used as cattle feed, while the stems contain a fiber which may be used in paper production.
This was taken on June 23 at 12AM with the help of the Super Moon. It was the only lighting provided. It was a windy night and I prayed the entire 30 second shutter delay that it would stay calm. My prayer was answered and I was able to capture this picture. This one flower looked wide awake while all the others around it was sleeping.
Just the begining.
My greatest passion is nature photography. I enjoy traveling to nature preserves and hiking with a camera. When I'm out on the trails, my eyes are always open for the beauty that God has created. I love trying to capture the best perspective of the treasures I find to share with others. One of my peacock pictures has been published on the front and back cover of a book titled "Aries".
